WALL OF SOUND ALBUM OF OCTOBER

love is the devil - THE TITANICS

I have long been a fan of the music stylings of Dave McCormack, so when Custard broke up I was quite sad. The came the Titanics first album Size isnt everything, which had its moments, but fell a little short of my expectations. Fast forward to the release of love is the devil, what a difference. The titanics have had total control over the recording, production and promotion of this album, and they have done a top job. This album is far better than anything Custard have released (sorry Custard fans), in saying this I should also state that I feel that Wahooti Fandago was custards best album, the question is was BMG controlling Custard like puppets (Or Bardots). To cut a long story short, if this is what a band can achive with out a record company, i think that more bands should folow the titanics lead.

On to the album, It starts with The devil is high which could have fit on to any of custards albums, if you know what I mean. Track two see's the band head into electronic with Stalkerbait, as the name suggests, this song sounds a bit like Spiderbait, with Janet (opps I mean Emma) covering the female vocals and Kram (arh.. Dave) doing the male all in all a top tune. Chito is a fun little number and the First single Set the controls for the heart of the sun is a piece of pure guitar drive pop. Track five Shoulda is my personal favorite, and it is worth mentioning that Glenn actually did this one. Hello pussycat is back as is Harmonica, Both made an appearance on Size Isnt Everything, but they have been re-recorded and sound 100% better. Another highlight is Millionaire Adventurer - Ballonist one of the live faves which has been around for a while. All in all I give the album a 9.5/10 and it only lost the .5 because I dont like the cover (Sorry Glenn).
